Finally in Cusco. It has a cute little airport where I ended up waiting in the cold for my ride. I kept getting solicited for taxi rides. Those guy wouldn't give up! My ride finally came and I went to the Maximo office. I got a mini tour, signed in, and received some paperwork. That's when I realized I had a host family! I thought I was staying in a hostel-style place, but I'm staying with a great woman named Patricia and there are currently two others staying there, friends from Australia.
Altitude is getting to me a little. Stairs are difficult, and Patricia's house is 3 stories, guess which one I'm on? But luckily there is plenty of coca tea.
And here is the view from the outdoor stairs of her house.
And a view from the plane ride to Cusco.
Probably the most interesting part of my day has been the cab rides. Sorta crazy like what you would suspect. It is 3 soles to get from my house to the offices which is about $1. You don't give them the address, you give them a landmark. First two rides I was with someone. The third Patricia hailed and I went on my own. I'm just hoping I can get back ok.
I've also taken my Spanish placement. 5+ years of Spanish have kindly placed me between "advanced basic" and "low intermediate." I'm going to do 2 hours of each every day. We'll see how that goes.
So I think it's almost lunch. We'll see what that consists of. Just have to make it back.
