Last night in Cusco with all my friends

Friday was the last day with many of my new friends. They left early this morning for Machu Picchu.

After class yesterday, we went to the yard of Koricancha to watch a festival of the Sun. It was quite a few people dressed in (traditional?) costumes and they were speaking what I assumed to be Quechua, the language of the Inca. None of us really understood what was going on, so we didn't stay for the whole time.

Going backwards, lunch was a delicious soup with spaghetti squash, parsley, and probably some other squash type thing.

Dinner that night was delicious and homey: tacos! They were made with soy meat, but were delicious. The salsa came in pouches, but was quite spicy which I liked. We finished the meal with carrot cake, which was more like a pound cake with shredded carrots.

Afterwards, all 9 of us gathered for photo taking. We set about 5 cameras on a timer all at the same time. They started flashing madly and we were all rolling with laughter. Patricia came out to see what on earth we were doing. Luckily her friend was there too so we were able to get a group photo with Patricia. It was a really nice night. Back row L-R Emma (UK), Hattie (UK), Ngaire (NZ), Joelle (CAN), Cynthia (CAN), Elly (UK), and home mom Patricia. Front row L-R me Julie (USA), Chava (USA, and Rochelle (USA).

This morning I woke up at 5:30 to see my friends off to their Machu Picchu excursion. I said goodbye, gave them all hugs, and went back to bed. I am so glad I had the opportunity to come here and meet so many wonderful people. I hope I will be able to see them again.
